Hunt scores a Brace as Reading downs Coventry
Reading has finally come to the part with a much needed victory over arch-rivals Coventry and thereby revived its championship fortunes. The win is a significant one, both for the team and in the context of the championship, as it halted the unwavering march of the Midlands pair, Wolves and Birmingham, from being automatically promoted by virtue of their performance. It will also bring back interest to the championship as now more than before there is a lot at stake for the participating teams.
The twin strike by the Irishman, which takes his tally for the season to 10, paved the way for a comprehensive 3-1 victory over their bitter rivals. Steve Coppell’s side can now start the rest of the season afresh and forget the trouncing they took at the hands of Southampton on their last home outing.
For Hunt, it was a special moment as for the major part of the time he is overshadowed by his famous counterparts, especially the 15-goal Ronaldinho-esque Kevin Doyle. He has been making strides from the time he moved from Dundee United in the summer to his current club, in a lucrative £600,000 transfer.
Meanwhile, Coppell played his part in emphasizing the role played by the player in the team’s overall development and pointed out that he had more shots on goal than Doyle this season. He also smartly refused to drawn into any comparison of his players, instead preferring to enjoy the important result.
The football game however started on a different note, with Coventry appearing the more adventurous of the two and creating more scoring chances and deservingly taking the lead. Reading however proved equal to the task and came roaring back, thanks to Hunt, and settled the issue in a span of 5 minutes when they scored two decisive goals.
