Birmingham is back in track for automatic promotion, as it defeated Derby County by a solitary goal. Wolves does the scoring, while Reading walks away with the win

Filed under: Match Reports — Walter at 2:14 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2009

Reading got a shot in the arm when a suicide goal from Neill Collins in the very first minute sank Wolves’ boat, and put Reading within two points of the leader. The result of the match played at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night has really thrown the championship wide open, and with Birmingham also winning their match at home, the final lag of the championship has all the ingredients to make for a great 100 meter dash. Birmingham left licking its wounds, Blackpool makes merry

Filed under: Match Reports — Walter at 1:24 pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Birmingham have only themselves to blame for the sorry state of affairs that they currently find themselves in, as they let go a rare opportunity to move to second spot in the Coca-Cola Championship, when they were beaten 2-0 by a 10-man Blackpool. Birmingham manager Alex McLeish admitted that they were simply not up to the task, and played an insipid brand of football allowing their opponents to win. (Read on …)

Betrayed by fate and crippled by exhaustion Burnley makes tearful exit from Carling Cup semi-final

Filed under: Match Reports — Walter at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2009

If you are a fan of Burnley it would take me by surprise if you say that you are not heartbroken by their heartbreaking exit from the Carling Cup semi-final. They have done just about everything they could, making the impossible look possible, only to see fate play a very heartless game with them. (Read on …)

Owen Coyle it seems of late has become a firm believer in miracles, and is hoping that a miracle does happen when they take on Tottenham in their second leg. Nottingham Forest addresses its miserable Home Record with a much sought for Win

Filed under: Match Reports — Walter at 2:59 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2009

Nottingham Forest would really savour their win over Plymouth Argyle, as it helped them to address their poor home record. Until now their performance at home was a real concern for Forest as they have been unable to take advantage of home conditions, that too despite winning the last four away matches on the trot. The result is also a good one for Billy Davies as it was his first home match in charge, and he would be pleased that he was able to remove the shackles. (Read on …)

Wolves squander their lead and end up with a Draw

Filed under: Match Reports — Walter at 2:32 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Wolves it apparently seems are beginning to take their success for granted as they squandered a 2-0 lead and allowed Bristol City to come back from the jaws of defeat to snatch a memorable draw. A victory against Bristol wouldn’t have only given Wolves an important seven point lead over second placed Reading, but would have almost secured them the championship. The result now leaves the door wide open, with all the top three teams, including third placed Birmingham, in with a chance to qualify for the automatic promotion spot. (Read on …)

Crystal Palace manager questions referee’s Fitness and blames him for Defeat

Filed under: Football League Championship News — Walter at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Crystal Palace manager, Neil Warnock, has blasted referee Clive Penton for what he believed was a sure penalty that was denied by the referee. The manager couldn’t believe his eyes when the referee let go Ipswich’s Tommy Miller, who apparently was involved in a serious tackle with Nick Carle. Neil Warnock has reasons to feel aggrieved as at that time his team was trailing 1-2, and a timely intervention would have given his team a wonderful opportunity to draw level. Instead, he and his team had to bear the ignominy of a 4-1 defeat by Ipswich. (Read on …)
