Swansea lets go a golden Opportunity to put Birmingham on the Ropes

Swansea missed a golden opportunity when they failed to put aside the challenge of a lackluster Birmingham side, managing an inspiring goalless draw. The draw highlighted the plight of Swansea who at the moment has earned the dubious distinction that of a draw specialist, with their recent performance further confirming the tag.

The game played at St Andrew didn’t live up to expectations and both teams have themselves to blame for the insipid display. Birmingham must be kicking themselves, and ironically also feel happy at the same time as they managed to avoid the humiliation of a defeat, as it was a chance for them to earn some valuable points and claim the second automatic promotion ticket ahead of Reading.

Meanwhile, Swansea played out their eighth consecutive draw and in the process emulating a Football League record held by several clubs, including Birmingham as well.

Birmingham saw their chance of a victory evaporate pretty quickly, when David Murphy was sent off for a second yellow card after he was found guilty of fouling Jordi Gomez in the 68th minute. Swansea in the meantime managed to mess a lot of chances and also failed to take advantage of the overwhelming possession they enjoyed.

Swansea did many things right in the first half, but the all important goal continued to elude them. Moreover, their strikers found a nemesis in the form of Birmingham goalkeeper who foiled every attempt thrown at him. It is not all as many sure chances went up in smokes, especially the one that was missed by Brandy in the dying minutes. Looks like the players will have to hit both the exercise machines and Reebok i-run treadmill to hopefully get back into winning form.
