Mauling at Old Trafford: Manchester United annihilates Chelsea

Old Trafford saw a superb execution of skill and exuberance as Manchester United annihilated Chelsea out of the game, scoring a 3-0 victory over their traditional rivals. The win also saw them beat a major team for the very first time in this season and helped them climb up the table, within five points of the top spot in the league table. Nemanja Vidic, star striker Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were the ones who scored for the Red Devils to take the team’s overall tally to 41 points, bringing them back in the hunt and narrowing the gap by 1 point with Chelsea placed at second.

The reason United are behind is because of their trip to Japan made mid-season for the Club World Cup where they were victorious. This meant that they played two games less in comparison to the two teams placed above them. A victory in each of the next two games against Bolton and Wigan will help Sir Ferguson’s team reclaim the top spot in the season for the first time.

The performance displayed by the Red Devils was a complete contrast of what we had seen earlier where they lost at Liverpool and Arsenal and could manage a mere draw at Chelsea. United dominated proceedings against the team which could only beat West Bromwich Albion in the last five games it played, a team that ranks lowest in the league. The defeat must have come as a shocker to Chelsea which as it is said to be the heaviest one inflicted on them in the past couple of years. So whilst Chelsea supporters hold their heads in shame, Red Devil fans can gleefully sport their Nike Manchester United football shirts. Manchester United again proved why it has one of the best defenses as the team has not allowed a goal in its previous eight appearances in the league and conceding a total of only 10 goals so far.
