Red hot Reading bury listless Birmingham

Reading is reaching peak form at the right time, if its thumping victory over Birmingham is any indication to go by. The victory has added momentum to the club’s pursuit of the Championship title, while halted the prospects of the vanquished to an extent.

The team at the moment seems to be playing as a unit reminiscent of the team of 2006, when the team was composed of players who refused to be intimidated by challenges, and possessed a formidable equation of pace and panache.

One player who has made a difference is Noel Hunt, brother of midfielder Stephen, a new recruit of the team. The player showed his class to put the team forward with a devastating free kick before he was substituted after suffering from dizziness.

The Irishman said that at one point of time he was finding it difficult to keep his attention at the ball, while running along the line, which forced him to leave the ground. The player also revealed that prior to the game he was practicing free kicks with his brother. Moreover, the player cautioned his team mates of any complacency as they have still a long way to go before the grueling competition concludes. The win over Birmingham despite being an important one, is only a step forward and they have to make many similar ones, he stressed.

Another player who has done himself a world of good is Kevin Doyle, who scored the 16th goal of the season with a flicked header from Stephen Hunt’s free kick. This performance is unlikely to go a begging and his fortune is set to soar once the transfer window opens next month.
