Wolves squander their lead and end up with a Draw
Wolves it apparently seems are beginning to take their success for granted as they squandered a 2-0 lead and allowed Bristol City to come back from the jaws of defeat to snatch a memorable draw. A victory against Bristol wouldn’t have only given Wolves an important seven point lead over second placed Reading, but would have almost secured them the championship. The result now leaves the door wide open, with all the top three teams, including third placed Birmingham, in with a chance to qualify for the automatic promotion spot.
The Wolves coach Mick McCarthy, was really livid with the result, as it was a golden opportunity missed, especially when its two main rivals Reading and Birmingham also failed to make any head way playing out futile draws.
The coach said that the win was there for the taking, and the players managed to goof it up all. Moreover, he was also dissatisfied with the number of chances missed by the frontline strikers to put the match beyond Bristol City’s reach. He singled out Adebola for special praise, and said that his introduction in the second-half put tremendous pressure in the team’s defense. He however added that his players were more intimidated by Adebola than was required, which made them make one mistake after another and also forced them on the defensive.
He was also furious with the way his team defended and said that the cause of Dele Adebola was helped by his team’s pathetic display. He also refused to buy the point that the team can relax now that rival Reading suffered a humiliating 2-0 at the hands of Swansea. He warned his players of any complacency from hereon, and emphasized that they cannot rely on past laurels.
