Captain Lee Carlsey leads from the front as Birmingham downs Derby County
Birmingham is back in track for automatic promotion, as it defeated Derby County by a solitary goal. Captain Lee Carsley led his team from the front as he not only scored the only goal of the match, but then saved a certain goal in dying minutes of the match to ensure that there is no dramatic twist to the match result.
The two teams interestingly are placed at third place, but while Birmingham is third from top, Derby is third from bottom! One thing that unites the team of late is that they are going through a dip of self-belief. But at least Birmingham will get a confidence boost from the result, whilst Derby County might have to play a few games of table football on the Harvard classic table if they want to feel good about their football performance. The win is surely not something to go wild about, considering the quality of the opposition, and they would do well to remember that despite being agonizingly close to the leaders in the championship battle they are not being able to overcome the paltry two point deficit. It is all because of their recent spate of poor run, which has dented their confidence.
Derby has got its own set of problems, and their manager Nigel Clough is still looking for that elusive win with him at the helm. The manager would feel unlucky, especially with the latest result as the team missed a number of genuine opportunities to press for a win.
Speaking on his team’s performance he said that the match was a good one for them, and the boys played really well. He said that if you forget the result, and instead analyze the performance it was the best performance of the team in the entire season. He stressed that it augurs well that the team is starting to play as a unit, and now we can look forward to for some good results.
