Careful Dave Morgan, be careful…..
When you hold a position of some responsibility and are in public domain, you can’t just say whatever comes to your mind. You need to be extra cautious when it involves English football and its innumerable passionate fans.
Dave Morgan, a director at Swansea City Football Club just did exactly what he was not supposed to. His comments are quite unfortunate and totally uncalled for. His comments asking, “Swansea fans to use their common sense” while they move to London and more importantly on their way home, “when many Cardiff fans will be in bad mood after their team loses” were in absolute bad taste. These clearly provoking comments should not have been uttered in front of live cameras and microphones, as they could inflame tensions between fans of the two clubs. The fans of both Swansea and Cardiff were to travel to and from London to be part of matches of their respective teams. Cardiff were to move to the capital in their fourth round FA Cup replay against Arsenal whereas the Swans have their Championship clash at Queen’s Park Rangers’ Loftus Road ground.
A lot of fans would be travelling for the fixtures and police have also talked about their fear about clash between fans of rival clubs. But that’s a speculation and there were never any need for Morgan to add fuel to fire.
Cardiff fans were obviously outraged and they have already notified FAW. An FAW spokesperson has confirmed that they have received the notification of the comments that appeared on the website.
Though Liberty Stadium club has expectedly distanced itself from the comments but his irresponsible behaviour has not done him or the club any good. Hopefully now onwards he’ll be sensible about expressing his views on sensitive subjects in front of the microphone and cameras; otherwise action might be taken against him.
