Tough times ahead for Misfortune stricken Liverpool
Misfortunes never come alone. Whosoever said that must have had an eye on Liverpool’s present wave of woes. First Keane’s departure, then FA cup loss and now Gerrard’s injury, and what could be next?
From the very day Robbie Keane moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Liverpool, he seemed uncomfortable. He was way happier when he was with the Spurs and rarely got the support and opportunities he must have been looking for at the Anfield club. It was really not a surprise when he moved back at a very paltry sum, a fraction of what was paid to get him, and scored for his new (actually older) club. As for the Liverpool, to have Keane in their ranks now would have been quite helpful.
The next thing that went wrong for the Anfield club was their recent 4th round loss to Everton. Both had shared honours in the first leg of the match and it was going to be very crucial to win this one. But after Liverpool struggled throughout, especially in the second half, Everton’s Gosling sealed this one for the Toffees just a minute form the end. This was the end of Rafa Benitez’s dream of FA cup.
As if that loss was not enough, to add insult to injury, the injury to Anfield captain Steven Gerrard that had kept him out for most part of the FA cup match turned out to be bigger threat than originally imagined. The scan done on 5th has shown that there is a tear in Kop captain’s hamstring. This would keep him out of action for a few days and he won’t be part of starting line up against Portsmouth on Saturday.
For the Liverpool fans, the captain Gerrard and the team coach Rafa it is race against time to get the captain back on the field for their match against Real Madrid on 25 February. It is definitely not the best of times for wearers of the Adidas Liverpool Away Shirt 2008, and the coming matches are going to be very crucial as Liverpool’s chances of a title this year are only getting narrower everyday.
