Arsenal, who had beaten Cardiff by a score line of 4-0 in the fourth round, will now move on to play Burnley sometime in the first week of March. Cardiff, who had proved to be quite impressive in the last meeting with Arsenal by successfully keeping them with a goalless score, unfortunately reflected major uncertainty with almost negligible team effort.

The game was totally controlled by the Gunners, especially with the return of Eduardo who was away from the game for nearly a year. The talented Croatian star, that originally missed a naughty toss and also a head on into goal, before he got the opportunity to capture the first goal from a great cross from Carlos Vela. The second goal that came in was from a corner strike which was taken by Samir Nasri and headed in by Nicklas Bendtner. The third goal was from Eduardo who had fallen and finally struck the target with the penalty strike. The final nail into the Cardiff coffin was nailed by Robin Van Persie who shot a fantastic goal which passed the goalkeeper.

The Gunners were all out for a win from the very beginning of the game; they had many opportunities and could have easily scored at least three times in the first eight minutes. Anyone wearing the Nike FC Arsenal home shirt definitely had something to cheer for, while it was all downhill for Cardiff supporters. It appeared as if it was not the same Cardiff that was playing.

Arsenal fielded: Sagna, Fabianski, Toure, Gibbs, Nasri (Ramsey 67), Song Billong, Denilson, Vela (Bischoff 74), Eduardo (Van Persie 67), Gallas, Bendtner.

Cardiff fielded: McNaughton, Bothroyd, Heaton, Purse (Blake 68), Roger Johnson, Kennedy, Burke, Rae (Scimeca 74), Parry (Whittingham 68), Ledley and McCormack.
