Hope for Burnley in Draw against Coventry
The Coca Cola Championship witnessed on 17th February, 2009 that Burnley managed to achieve a draw against Coventry with the help of substitute Eagles who scored in the dying moments of the game.
The game was a nail biting finish which leaves the Clarets on level with Sheffield United at the number six slot, but Sheffield has a game to play. On the other hand Coventry stays put holding the 14th position the team’s football manager Chris Coleman cannot be very pleased at all. A win for Burnley would have certainly put them in among the top six.
The game was mostly dominated by Burnley, but with the strong attacking of Clinton Morrison and Leon Best the Sky Blues managed to put in a goal before the break. This was achieved when Best headed in the ball finding the nets from a great clip by Jordan Henderson from the right end.
After the break Burnley were on their toes to find that equalizer or win. They had a few chances but could not convert, where as in the 71st minute manager Coyle decided to make amends for the break that was needed and replaced Thompson, Blake and Jordan with Chris Eagles, Kevin McDonald and Rodriquez.
The substitution was remunerated in the closing minute of the game when Rodriguez sighted Eagles along the penalty area and did not miss in passing him the ball with a flick from his left foot towards the far corner making it easy for Eagle to head in the ball pass the posts into the net.
