Reading, Cardiff close on Play-offs
The positions were booked in the in the English Championship playoffs by Cardiff City & Reading. Both of them are just a step away from the Premier League with equal chances. Cardiff had to face disappointment at relegated Charlton with drawing 2-2. Whereas Reading beat Derby 2-0. However, good or bad both these results were enough to Cardiff City & Reading to get to 74 points with six clear 7th place.
Derby County’s third successive defeat was inflicted by Reading as Shane Long and Dave Kitson’s goals in the 2nd half were enough for a great victory. Steve Coppell, who is the manager of Reading commented that the tension surrounding the club for making the play – offs has been eased because of this win. He further added that by easing out the tension, he didn’t mean that they were relaxed; it’s just that the clouds of tension isn’t that thick as they were earlier.
Dave Jones, Cardiff’s manager, this came as a huge sigh of relief after the disaster of 6-0 by Preston on Saturday. He was glad that his side picked up themselves. A superb effort by Gabor Gyepes got them from 2-0 down today. The 2 minutes from time, got them this point could prove to be quite valuable.
It’s almost a dog fight to ensure that Charleston couldn’t join in League 1 next season. And Barnsley had tasted a three points disappear in injury-time.
Coventry City’s Elliott Ward kept his cool to translate the penalty & force a 1-1 draw with Yorkshire side. However, Coventry City clearly still remains firmly out of contention this year, and the player’s will have to hit the cross trainer and other fitness equipment hard in the off-season, in order to be in the best form possible. Fortunately enough though, CCFC have managed to hold onto many of their key players, which will no doubt help further their success next season.
