The annual report prepared by Jim Brown on Coventry City FC’s performance and other related happenings is finally out. It briefly outlines all the major events and even though Brown tries to maintain some sort on-off optimism throughout but unfortunately the lack of wins and paucity of goals can make even the a hard-line optimistic fan crumble. Though the two wins over Wolves and Birmingham was fantastic and perfectly executed it has been more than 38 years since City last finished in the top six of any division. City has some great sought after player like Danny Fox and Kieren Westwood among others nonetheless with the club still losing money it is difficult to imagine them sticking around for long.

They were able to notch up a score of 54 from a total of 46 games one point more than last season. 13 league wins came City’s way one fewer than last season. Out of the 16 games played away from home 5 were won one less that the previous season and 11 games ended in a defeat. At home ground some games were lost to middling or poor teams like Doncaster, Plymouth and Ipswich. The greatest win came at home ground against Southampton with a 4-1 win while the most major defeat came against Plymouth that resulted in a 4-0 score. The highest goal scorer for the season was Clint Morrison with a total of 12 goals. None of the other players could score more than six goals. The club was able to achieve a double victory over four teams – Birmingham, Norwich, Sheffield and Blues. The teams that were able to perform a double over City were, Cardiff Watford, Bristol City and Plymouth. The average home attendance stood at 17,411 while the away attendance stood at 17,592. The home average attendance saw a drastic fall by almost 9 per cent while it fell by 18 percent from last season. City was able to convert only one game into a victory after it fell behind - against Blackburn. It was defeated by 4 teams (Wolves, Preston Watford and Brunley) after it gained the lead.

No hat tricks were scored this season which makes it seven years since they were last scored. Doncaster played with City after 1952 though this ended in a defeat for City. No own goals benefited City; however Ben Turner managed to give one away. Morrison was able to net the ball in a mere 37 seconds the fastest goal for this season. Kieren Westwood became the only player after Gary McAllister to play in all of City’s games. Marcus Hall made a total of 300 appearances for CC till now. Nineteen appearances were made by Robbie Simpson as a substitute the highest for this season. A total of four live games of City were televised and available for everyone to watch on their full HD LCD television at home; once on ITV and three times on SKY. City was able to knock Blackburn for the second time in a succession out of the FA cup. Apart from the games that were lost people associated with City for the longest time passed away this year including the club’s former coach Tommy Casey. This season was dotted with hits and near misses. It seems hard to imagine that City could pull itself and recover to claim its position among the top clubs, somewhere it originally belongs.
